World Cup 2023 BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla’ On Why Punjab’s Mohali Stadium Not Included In Tournament Plan Political Interference

BCCI’s Respond: played in india ODI World Cup The official schedule for 2023 has been announced. The ICC released the schedule last Tuesday (June 27). World Cup matches will be played at 12 venues in India. Punjab’s Mohali Cricket Stadium was not included in the list, on which Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair said that Mohali did not get World Cup matches due to political interference. Now the response has been given by the BCCI.

BCCA Vice President Rajeev Shukla gave a statement to the news agency ‘NI’ on this and said that Punjab’s Mohali Stadium did not get a single World Cup match because the existing stadium does not meet ICC standards and the ICC has no role in deciding the venue. Consent is very important.

The Sports Minister of Punjab had given a statement saying, “The exclusion of Punjab’s Mohali from the list of host cities of the tournament was due to political interference. The Punjab government will take up the issue with the BCCI.”

Rajeev Shukla said, “This is the first time that 12 venues have been selected for the World Cup. Earlier, not so many venues were selected in the last World Cup. Out of these 12 venues, the warm-up matches will be held in Trivandrum and Guwahati, while the rest League matches will be held at various places. More centers have been accommodated. Four venues from South Zone, one venue from Central Zone, 2 from West Zone, 2 from North Zone. Delhi and Dharamshala will have matches (in North Zone).”

Bilateral series will be given to Mohali

The BCCI vice-president said, “Last year Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match was given to Mohali. The Mullanpur stadium in Mohali is getting ready. If it was ready, they would have got the World Cup match. The existing stadium in Mohali meets ICC standards.” Didn’t land and that’s why he was not given matches. But it is not that he will not be given matches.

Rajeev Shukla further said, “The bilateral series matches will be given to them, as it is based on the rotational system. No ‘pick and choosing’ has been done. ICC’s consent is necessary to finalize the venue. In Trivandrum, warm up matches have been given for the first time. It is not that any centre/zone has been overlooked. The stadium has been chosen with great care, even Guwahati in the North East zone has got matches.”
